Black Mane
Lion
Tanzania,
Africa
The lion
is a member of the cat family whose size and power has
earned it the name "king of the beasts". Male
lions grow to 10 feet long including the tail, 3 feet
high and weigh up to 500 lbs. Only the male has a black
to tawny colored mane. The lions roar is usually uttered
before the animals hunt, spending only 2-3 hours pursuing
food and the remainder loafing and dozing.
